  The Opinel Knife Maintenance Kit contains everything you need to keep your Opinel knife in good condition from the tip of the blade to the heel of the handle.

  Packaged in a convenient metal storage box, this kit includes a 5.5 inch sharpening stone, a 5 ounce can of plant-based oil and a microfiber cloth.

  The sharpening stone is a natural stone sourced from the French Pyranees. To sharpen your knife blade with this stone, wet it and draw the blade across it at the proper angle.

  The maintenance oil, which is plant-based, can be used for greasing the blade and hinge and the Virobloc locking ring. It can also be used to maintain wood handles and cutting boards.

  Finally, the microfiber cloth is ideal for cleaning Opinel knives as well as applying oil to the handle and blade and wiping everything clean when you have finished.

  To apply the oil, clean and dry your knife with a soft, dry cloth, such as the included microfiber cloth in this set. Then, apply a few drops of the oil to a clean cloth and rub it carefully on the blade. Allow the blade to dry fully before closing it.

  To condition Opinel wood handles, apply a few drops of oil to the microfiber cloth and rub them evenly.

  The Opinel No.08 Traditional Carbon Steel Folding Knife is an iconic outdoor adventure tool with an 8.5 cm (3.28 inch) blade that locks securely into place, and folds neatly into the handle between tasks.

  The timeless Opinel Number 8 is the perfect size for everyday carry. It is the knife model that started it all when Joseph Opinel introduced it in 1890, and carbon steel is the blade steel used by Joseph for that first knife.

  This knife is perfect for everything from setting up camp to cooking by the fire, and is equally at home with DIY projects as out in the woods.

  The blade of the No.08 is crafted from XC90 carbon steel, which holds an edge exceptionally well and is very easy to sharpen. Carbon steel does require special treatment and oiling after use to avoid corrosion. Even with maintenance, a carbon steel blade will develop a dark patina over time.

  The grind of the No.8's blade is convex, which minimizes contact between the sides of the blade and the material being cut, prolonging the sharp edge's life. This grind also makes the blade extremely strong and allows Opinel to put a remarkably sharp edge on it.

  Crafted in the French Alps, this folding pocket knife features a tinted and varnished beechwood handle made from wood sourced from sustainably managed forests in France. It is contoured for a comfortable grip.

  The blade locks open for use or closed between jobs with Opinel's patented Virobloc safety ring, which is a stainless steel ring that rotates into position and keeps the blade securely in place.

  Caring for your Opinel Knife:
  Hand wash only. Do not immerse your knife in water, as this could warp the wooden handle. Dry the blade before closing, as carbon steel has very low resistance to corrosion. Wipe the blade clean after use and oil it frequently.
