  • The Synergy Alox X Pocket Knife by Victorinox is part of the Alox Refined collection. It features distinct, modern skeletonized Alox handles that make this everyday carry light and rugged, even though it's packed with features.

    The Synergy X packs 10 functions into a tool that weighs only 3.5 ounces. Alongside the large locking blade and scissors, Victorinox's popular box opener, screwdrivers, a bottle opener, and a nail file put everything you need in the palm of your hand.     Mostly like it…

    Pros: Looks good to me. Love that Victorinox is trying to respond to customer asks. I got one of each new model.

    Nit pics:

    Clip tension is abysmally weak. It’s fallen out of my (loose) pocket twice (once when reclining, once when pulling keys out of my pocket and brushing past the Synergy X).

    The liner lock and blade pull tension are needlessly firm (even compared to other SAKs).

    The cut out near the pivot allows pocket dust/muck intrusion… where it washes out of the other scale cutouts okay, the pivot lube causes some lint to stick. Doesn’t look great as such.

    Get one anyway… for EDC, collecting, or gift giving. Wouldn’t use for any dirty tasks.

    The SAK that I have been waiting for

    This SAK gets 5 stars from me. I always wanted one with a locking blade and although there are models in the Evolution series that fit my requirements for the tools that I used the most but they were a little small for my hand. I like a four-fingered grip versus a 3.5 on the Delemont types. I also disliked the Delemont type scissors and far preferred the non-serrated scissors.

    The closest Alox knives to the Synergy X are the Farmer X and Pioneer X and while I liked their robust tool sets, the non-locking blades were a concern because I have used the blade to dig under tree bark for insects and I have almost cut myself several times. Those knives also had a hot spot where the key ring attachment dug into my palm.

    The pocket clip is great even though it's thin. Yes, you do have to use two hands to close and open the Synergy X but my father always insisted that the proper way to open and close a knife was to use two hands anyway. I have carried the knife for about a week and have not noticed anymore lint buildup than with other knives nor have had any difficulty cleaning the knife. I have used the Synergy X outdoors, have gotten it really dirty and have no issues with cleaning it. A can of compressed air works very well for cleaning. The blade locks with no play whatsoever unlike some of the larger SAK's. The knife is very comfortable in the hand and the "skeleton" holes make the knife more comfortable and give a more secure to grip in my opinion. The nail file…

    Totally perfect

    I like everything about this Victorinox. I like the tool set, the new pocket clip, the lock and the new finish and the “speed holes”. I can see how everything was thought out and executed in detail. It all works like it is meant to. Even down to the safety measures like making a person use two hands to fold the blade back up. Using one hand is a bad idea on this type of tool. So they did the best they could to make you close it the correct way. The pocket clip is excellent, comfortable in hand, slim and attractive on the tool. The “speed holes” make it easier to clean and give grip in some situations, and are cool to look through as well. (Visual interest.)

    If someone wants to be able to close their knife with one hand or have a pocket clip that won’t let go without GREAT force, well, this knife isn’t for you. Pick another knife appropriate for the work you will do.

    Finally a new Victorinox knife

    I get a lot of use from the package opener. I Like the additional file tool rather than another blade. Victorinox scissors are great.

    The locking blade would be easier to close if it had a half stop like their locking Evogrip models.

    The pocket clip is a little loose when used on thin fabrics.
