The Shun Higo Nokami, or "Gentleman's" Knife is made in the tradition of the first Japanese pocketknives, which were manufactured in 1896 in Meiji-era Japan. This beautifully crafted folding knife is a handsome accessory that may be carried as a pocketknife or a personal steak knife. As with the traditional Higo Nokami, when the knife is closed, part of the tang protrudes so it can be used as a lever to open the knife.
While the Shun Higo Nokami is true to the tradition of the protruding tang and the elegance of its namesake, Shun has made some embellishments and refinements to the original design. These include a liner lock to safely lock the knife in the open position when in use. In addition, Shun has made this knife with exceptionally sharp VG10 "super steel." The angle of the razor-sharp blade is the traditional Shun 16-degrees on each side. The beautiful handle of this elegant piece is ebony PakkaWood with an inlaid mosaic crest.
A comfortable-to-use 6-inches in length when open, this knife folds down to only 3.5-inches when closed. This lightweight knife fits nicely into a suit pocket. The Higo Nokami comes with a luxurious leather sheath.
