I own the hardwood handle version of this excellent daily-use knife: it is lightweight--just two ounces--and beautifully made, a classic design on which you may always depend. And unlike the four-row models, this slim Spartan is very easy to carry in almost any pocket!

This is my third Spartan in 25 years, first two were lost on camping trips with my scouts. My current knife is over 15 years old and has served me well in camping and at work. It was important enough to stand in a 2 hour line to retrieve from a check-in at an amusement park (it naturally goes into my pocket everyday) I hate leaving it at home when I travel by plane.

This was my second knife I ever owned, my aunt got it for me when she went to switzerland a couple years ago, and I've been in love with it ever since. I bring it with me EVERYWHERE, comes in handy 24/7. I put my keys on the ring so they never get lost :3 it holds a great edge with a good sharpening, and for the 5 or so years I've had it, never needed any kind of lubricant, and the none of the tools have ever come loose. Amazing knife, but I'm growing out of it, need more tools (only reason I have it a 4), that's why I'm here to get the huntsman :)

Ideal size and weight Review by Ian

My Brother purchased me a Spartan back in 1974 on his Scout trip to Switzerland where he got it engraved with my name. I still have the knife to this day. It goes in my pocket every day although I have had a few close calls with the security wanting to take the knife when traveling since 911.
I have managed to keep the blades in good shape all these years but it has become tired... Not bad for a 35+ year old knife
Christmas 2011 my children brought me an engraved replacement although the 1974 knife is still use able I will now put it in a safe place and use its sharper replacement.

I had my spartan for several months until it felll out of my pants one day. i miss the knife. it holds a edge for an amazingly long time. both blades are excellent and so are the can openere and screw driver. i never had use for the reamer or cork. a must buy for fans of medum size and weight swiss army knives. i would also recomend the version with the black belt clip and a lanyard for removal and grip.

I bought my Spartan in Nov. 2010 at the local REI store.

This is my story of the Spartan:

A few years ago I thought I needed a SAK. I had my small Classic SD, but I needed a larger tool for more heavy-duty work. My parents and I went to the sporting goods store to get my friend a birthday present. I found a Spartan and was unwilling to leave the store without it. At that time, at REI it cost $25. Now it costs $26. Not cheap, but it is worth it!

The Spartan is my main tool and one of my favorite possessions, along with a SilverTech Spartan that Victorinox sent me as a special gift.

This knife is one of THE BEST OF THE BEST ever! It is the perfect size and weight. It's not too thick with tools, but it has all you need to get the job done.

I needed an everyday "pocketknife" some years ago, and bought this model. It has served me so very well that I was never dissappointed, I recently lost it, and have searched the intertnet, looking for other models, and guess what...I have seen them all, and come back to this one. I will order another....and of course then find the one I lost (Murpy is still alive and kicking!) But, if that happens, then I must say "what is better than a Swiss Army Spartan"...well, two, of course!
